ABOUT COWRYMAN
After the rough cut, the remaining job is often to bring a surface to a consistent depth. Cowryman develops Router Planes for that stage of the work, combining stainless-steel bodies, HSS cutters, and straightforward mechanical structures that provide the support, access, guidance, and adjustment the work requires—without unnecessary complexity.
THE WORK
Router Planes help with the finishing stage of joinery: leveling dados, cleaning groove bottoms, refining tenon cheeks, and bringing hinge recesses and shallow mortises to a consistent depth. They also address narrow areas where the cutter and base need to reach the work in a controlled way. Cowryman focuses on these tasks rather than treating the range as a general woodworking lifestyle line.
PRACTICAL STRUCTURE
A woodworking tool should spend more time doing the work than being adjusted or maintained. Cowryman uses stainless steel, HSS, and direct, understandable mechanisms to provide the support, cutter control, guidance, and depth adjustment the task requires without adding unnecessary mechanisms. Routine care still matters, and the design does not make a maintenance-free promise. The aim is maintenance that remains understandable and manageable in practical workshop use.

MODEL DIFFERENCES
One Router Plane configuration does not fit every working position. The 003 offers a compact general-purpose setup. The 040 changes the hand position with larger, outward-angled handles. The 022 and 035 share the same larger-base structure and include a fence; the 035 also adds spring-assisted fine depth adjustment. The 038 uses a dual-screw cutter lock, with its fence available separately. The 042 uses a dedicated L-shaped cutter system for corners, edges, hinge mortises, and narrow recesses. These are working choices, not a model ranking.

PRACTICAL DEVELOPMENT
Cowryman has continued developing Router Plane configurations since 2017 through practical refinement of grip position, base support, cutter placement and locking, depth adjustment, fence options, and access to narrow areas. The 003 is currently a fourth-generation design; other models follow their own development paths. Development does not mean adding complexity for its own sake; each change should support the work or make the tool easier to use and maintain.

CUTTER COMPATIBILITY
Models 003, 040, 022, 035, and 038 use the straight-cutter family. Model 042 uses its own L-shaped cutter family. Replacement cutters and selected cutter sets are available for supported configurations, and compatibility should be checked before purchase. Cutter-only options do not include a Router Plane. Selected replacement parts may be available, but parts availability is not guaranteed. When replacing a cutter, confirm the matching model and cutter family before selecting a size.

Used by models 003, 040, 022, 035, and 038.

Used by model 042 for corners, edges, hinge mortises, and narrow recesses.
